Admissions

Woodbridge Road Academy provides a highly structured and predictable learning environment so that our pupils can feel safe, learn and thrive.

Admissions to the School

Woodbridge Road Academy (WRA) is a co-educational special school for pupils aged 9 to 16, (school years 5 to 11) with communication and interaction needs.

For a child to be admitted, WRA must be named, by a local authority, in the child’s education health and care plan (EHCP).

Parents wishing their children to benefit from our provision should ask their local authority to name WRA in their child’s EHCP.

A local authority can also refer a child to WRA for a placement whilst an EHC needs assessment is being undertaken. To refer a child in this way requires the agreement of the school’s home local authority (if the school is in another local authority area), the school and the child’s parents, or the student when he or she is a post 16 student. Any assessment should be completed within the 20 weeks set out in the Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice 0:25 (the 20 week timeframe is subject to the specific exemptions set out in the Special Educational Needs Regulations 2014).

Children under an EHC needs assessment will be dual registered and return, full time, to their mainstream school if the local authority decides not to issue an EHCP.
