Woodbridge Road Academy Newsletter – March 26

We are very proud of both our students who went on the PGL trip and those who stayed in school and adapted well to different groups.

The pupils on the PGL trip had a brilliant time, for some of them it was their first time away from home without parents and some overcame their fears to take part in the activities. One pupil was heard to shout “Heights! I’m not scared of you” before going on the zipwire.

We were really lucky with the weather as the forecast looked really wet but in the end it was just windy and cold.

End of Term Certificates

We will be giving out the end of term certificates in our assembly on the last day of term.

There are:
55 certificates for attendance of 92% or above this term.
13 valued behaviour awards – for no detrimental behaviour points this term.
4 Platinum for more than 500 valued behaviour points.
3 Gold awards for more than 350 valued behaviour points
9 Silver awards for more than 250 valued behaviour points.
13 Bronze for more than 150 behaviour points.

Well done to all our students, we are proud of every one of them.

Usborne Sponsored “Ready, Steady, Read”

We held our first sponsored read this term and we are delighted with how many of our students took part.

They accumulated lots of reading hours and raised a fantastic £532 towards new books for our library. The sponsored read was through Usborne Books whom we then bought a large selection of books from. The students put in requests for books they would like to have in the library.

Sutton Hoo Photography Visit

Year 11 photography studio and to Sutton Hoo and Woodbridge to take photos towards their GCSE photography coursework.

They were very lucky with the weather and got some lovely shots. We were very proud of their behaviour as a Sutton Hoo volunteer (but not surprised) commented on how mature and well behaved they were.

External Visitors

We are very fortunate to be able to invite people from all walks of life into our school to talk to the students and give them knowledge which might be outside of their every day life.

This term we had visits from the police who spoke to all the students about on online safety and we had a tractor and farmer who talked to the students about farming and what he grows on his farm.

Visit to Duxford Imperial War Museum

Back in February we took a coach to visit Duxford Imperial War Museum.

Everyone enjoyed the visit and got involved with the dressing up and viewing the planes in the various different displays.

A Plea

Please, please can all parents/carers write their child’s name in the school jumpers.

Pupils can get quite upset if they cannot find their own jumper after they have laid it down in school and it has found its way to the Lost Property store.

ITFC Inspires

A group of students have been taking part in the Ipswich Town Football Club Inspires course over the past few weeks.

Premier League Inspires is a personal development programme, funded by the Premier League through the Premier League Foundation. The programme uses the power of football to inspire young people aged 11-to-18 to develop the personal skills and positive attitudes needed to succeed in life. It is predominantly delivered in secondary schools.

Bowling and Panathlon

We are very lucky to be included in the local Interschools Inclusive games, through this we get invited to take part in sailing, swimming, bowling and panathlon events.

RSHE Consultation

Thank you to those who attended our RSHE (relationship, sex and health education) parent information session this week.
