Woodbridge Road Academy Newsletter – May 26

As usual we have had a very busy term at WRA.

Pupils have been busy in Forest School preparing the flowerbeds and planting vegetables and flowers. When the weather has been nice, (which has been very hit and miss this term!) pupils have made the most of it and have enjoyed eating their lunch outside and some lessons have moved outside.

Year 11 have started their GCSEs this term and year 6 have completed their SATs. We are extremely proud of how well they are all coping with the different routines.

Changes to Free School Meals - Action Required

From September the criteria regarding Free School Meals is changing.

We are legally required to run eligibility checks for the start of every academic and this includes everyone who receives Universal Credit. We will be running these checks next term. We have sent paper copies of the form home with pupils this week, and have also sent an electronic copy via MCAS. Please can ALL families complete this. If you would like another copy please email the school office on info@woodbridgegroadacademy.org

Travel Training

Year 9 have completed their travel training this term.

We had a Travel Trainer come into school on a weekly basis and take groups of pupils outside of school to teach them about road safety and also travelling on public transport. The final session comprised of the group getting the bus from near school into Ipswich, a quick visit to McDonald’s for those who wanted to and getting the bus back to school.

Riding for the Disabled

We continue to send a small group of pupils to riding lessons weekly. It is lovely to see the pupils confidence with the horses grow each week.

Year 10 Mock Hospitality & Catering Exam

We are preparing year 10 for their hospitality and catering exam which they will sit next year.

As part of this, they have done a mock exam. The whole class did really well and produced some fantastic dishes.

Visits to Sutton Hoo

We were very fortunate to have two day trips to Sutton Hoo funded by Starling Bank.

Pupils made clay tiles using natural resources such as leaves and twigs. They also made dens and s’mores which they were very happy with!

School Farm and Country Fair

In April Rowan class visited Trinity Park for the School Farm and Country Fair.

This is a day full of interactive activities designed to educate children on the importance of agriculture to Suffolk, the role of farming in delivering food to our tables and the role wildlife and conservation play in building thriving countryside. The pupils had a fun time looking at all the stands and enjoyed some hands-on experience with the mediaeval stands.
